San Francisco 49ers Season Ticket Holder for 30 Years Dies at Age 72

Some of the people with ties to Pacifica who passed away recently.

Burton Walter Miller, a longtime Pacifica resident, was born in Chico, Calif., on February 13, 1941, and grew up in Grass Valley, Calif. He earned an Associate of Arts degree from Sierra College in 1962 and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Chico State College in 1968. He interrupted his education to travel extensively throughout Europe for an extended period, hitch-hiking and staying in youth hostels. Throughout junior high school, high school and junior college, he participated in track and field events, winning many ribbons and awards. While at Chico State College, he  met his future wife, Jo Ann Mabrey, of Chico, and they married in 1968. They recently celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. Miller became a licensed Medical Technologist (Clinical Laboratory Scientist) in 1969. He worked in Chico and San Francisco hospital laboratories as a medical technologist and worked his way into laboratory administration, serving as the Administrative Director of Clinical Laboratory Services at the California campus of the California Pacific Medical Center. After almost 30 years in hospital laboratory work, Miller moved into designing laboratory computer software programs and worked for Modulus Data Systems for 10 years, before retiring in 2007. He was also an avid San Francisco 49ers fan and season ticket holder for over 30 years. He passed away on October 18, 2013 at the age of 72.

Edward Henry Willers, born April 21, 1935, in San Francisco, spent most of his childhood under the care of doctors and nurses at San Francisco General Hospital for contracting tuberculosis after breaking his leg at the age of 4. At the age 14 he returned home and attended John O'Connell High School where he would learn the trade of shoe repair. After he married LaVerne A. (Toboni) Willers, his son Edward Jr. was born in 1959 and his twins, Kenneth and Deborah were born in 1961. During the late 1970's Edward continued to work in the shoe repair business while also bartending in the evening at the Monte Carlo. He had a passion for the SF 49ers and the SF Giants and would always be faithfully watching the games when his home teams were playing. He was an artist and painter and over the years filled his home with his own artwork. In addition to his family members, he leaves all his friends at Nick's Restaurant in Pacifica. He passed away at the age of 78 on October 21, 2013 at Home Sweet Home Care Facility in Daly City after a long battle with prostate cancer.
