Could this be the reason why kids are dropping out of high school. SB 543, signed by Gov. ArnoldRead More Schwarzenegger in 2010, “allows school staff to remove children ages 12 and up from government schools and taken off-campus for counseling sessions, without parental permission or involvement. The purpose is to permit pro-homosexuality teachers and administrators to remove sexually confused children in 6th grade and up from campus and take them to pro-homosexuality counselors who will encourage them to embrace the homosexual lifestyle.” Read more at http://www.wnd.com/2013/04/stunner-california-to-help-infertile-gay-duos/#Z5e0rTMLYm5pPkBc.99 Please read the rest of this article and tell me what you think. http://www.wnd.com/2013/04/stunner-california-to-help-infertile-gay-duos/

I agree with some of your statement but I would add that many young highschoolers are having aRead More difficult time with parents divoracing and leaving state to find other work. I know many families who are going through very difficult times and too many teenagers are kicked to the curb to fend for themselves. I know families who are taking in kids and giving them a couch and a shower. It hurts my stomach to see this. This is America and we have gone backwards. Americans are starving and cant buy food. We have high inflation and our savings are not earning any interest. We are not in a good place. So, yes, kids more than ever numb themselves with drugs and alcohol. Just ask the cops about it.

Most of the kids I see walking around here in Pacifica look like they just smoked a joint or areRead More tweeked out.. The other poster says the kids are bored. More like your typical pot head to lazy to learn. Remember Pacifca is known for it's Meth heads.

Common Core Standards = dumbing down the standards. Who loses? The students. Way to go.

Cabrillo is such a wonderful school. Thank you to all of the teachers, staff, and parents forRead More creating a safe learning space for kids.

Technology is extremely important and the latest, greatest should be taught in "some" highRead More schools, not all. The brightest and most interested should be encouraged to study technology and engineering. But, this won't happen because of schools now adopting Common Core, which is communism. Common Core forces all children to be the same and collects data of all students starting in Kindergarten to 12th grade. The government then assigns them a job when they graduate. Say good bye to Art, Math and independent thinking. America is evil, is what they are teaching. Are you white? Then you shall be made to feel guilty. That is what they are teaching. Hate whitey and America.

Terra Linda is NOT the name of the high school in Pacifica... It is TERRA NOVA HIGH SCHOOL...

That's nothing. When I was in elementary and high school there was between 30 and 35 students, perRead More class, and that was in the 60's and early 70's when student were learning and graduating. This is more propaganda to make us think we need to raise taxes and give the teachers union more money. Don't fall for it.

Here in Las Vegas many schools have between 40-50 students per class. Clark County is the 5thRead More largest school district in the country. It also ranks near the bottom in graduation. Keep your class size down and be proud of your school district.

US Dept of Education is currently paying homage to Mao Zedong. One of Mao quotes is on the DoERead More website. Read.

I am spreading propaganda by asking you to read the actual guidelines. You my friend need to look upRead More the definition of propaganda. Maybe you can also tell me if you even know what communism is because I don't see how any of my comment points to communist beliefs. You throw words around without actually knowing what they mean. So let me help you out, 1. I am not a communist, 2. I have kids 3. I don't personally believe in abortion but I believe that I don't have the right to dictate what others may choose (its called freedom of choice) 4. I can't stand extremists from the left or the right. 5. dreaming of going back to the good old days(1790) is not a solution.

The common core standards are available online. I have an idea instead of spewing your ridiculousRead More right wing propaganda (or even reading the BS) Go use your mind and read it yourself. I know its scary to think for yourself but go try it.

I love the changes the Mr. Stafford is making at Cabrillo, I feel our (as parents) voices are beingRead More heard. I love the interaction he has with the children and glad Cabrillo has made that change. I don't see Carson returning to Cabrillo.

You can't squeeze blood from a turnip. Now, having said that, it is a crying shame that theseRead More teachers, who I have the greatest respect for, can't get a little break. I know there is no money out there, but can we cut something? I am sure teachers can think of something that can be cut. We all see waste. These teachers deserve a raise.

I disagree that students should fight the intruder at their school. They should leave it to theRead More teachers. Though I do respect that they help the student at their school.

I was shocked when we moved here from NC two years ago that many of these common sense proceduresRead More were not already in place here. I had never been to a public school where an adult could simply walk onto the campus any time of the day and go anywhere without a visitor's pass. I felt that anyone could walk off with anyone's child at any point, especially a non-custodial parent whom the child might be friendly with but who actually has no legal right to the child. The other thing that is just plain nuts is the disorderly car "line" at schools for pick-up. Where I lived before every teacher and the principal organized traffic and students and everyone was picked up without the chaos and near daily accidents at Vallemar. Every parent was issued a colored flyer that had to be displayed on the vehicle dash at pickup indicating the child's name and teacher. The right child would only be dispatched to the car with the appropriate tag. Pickups were ultra smooth and very fast but most importantly so much safer for the kids and avoided all potential fender benders from people double parking, waiting in running vehicles behind parked cars who are trying to reverse out to leave, etc. It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.

what new cars are you talking about? and compared to other districts around the bay? and otherRead More professions requiring a a degree plus graduate work?

I was visiting a friend in their workplace last week. On the white board basic algebra was bengRead More used. Not one person sitting in that office was able to understand the math. Algebra should remain mandatory to graduate from 8th grade. A young adult I know of was recruited right out of high school by a big company because of their math skills and completeting calculus in their senior year. This young person is still employed and by this company and lives independently from their parents since the age of 19 yrs. Please listen to Dr. Benjamin Soloman Carson who gave a speech at President Obama's National Prayer Breakfast. Please listen to the end. He speaks about how important it is for our children to understand Math. President Obama has great respect for this man. http://www.c-spanvideo.org/clip/4353213

I agree with Deborah. I think PSD students will be better served with tiered math classes inRead More middle-school to allow those students who are ready to move into algebra to do so and provide necessary support to those students who aren't. With the effort that PSD has put into being thought leaders in STEM, it is disappointing to learn that PSD is considering an "only" core standard approach.
Deborah February 6, 2013 at 04:04 pm
Math is the purest kind of logical thought there is. Whether or not a student pursues mathematicsRead More as part a career (and many careers include algebraic thinking), logical thinking crosses all disciplines. Many colleges expect students to have completed calculus by high school, which becomes increasingly unlikely if students have not completed algebra by the 8th grade. Rather than bringing everyone up to world standards, we as a state have decided to go in the opposite direction. I urge the district not to follow the state down the wrong path.

How much money did WE the taxpayers lose in this law suit? Who was the law office that representedRead More us? Why did Anne Campbell think we would win? Anyone know?
