New Pacifica Salon Celebrates Opening; Bluegrass, Latin Funk and Classical Guitar Musicians Perform

Friday, Nov. 8

The library will be presenting one of this country's premiere classical guitarists, Peter Fletcher, in a return engagement featuring original transcriptions of the works of Grieg from his new CD. A rare treat for Pacifica, a free concert by a nationally recognized guitarist who regularly plays Carnegie Hall but loves playing in libraries. Refreshments will be served.

Bring the little ones to hear fun children's stories read by Nicole Sayres and friends. The event is free of charge and open to the public. At Florey's Book Co., 2120 Palmetto Ave. at 10 a.m.

Makru at Surf Spot

Dance the afternoon away at Surf Spot to the Latin/World fusion music of Makru, featuring Rumba Flamenca, reggae, Cuban son, cumbia, ska and other global beats in both English and Spanish at 2 p.m.

High Country, Bluegrass Band

The bluegrass band High Country takes to the stage of the Mildred Owen Concert Hall once again. This wonderful group will knock your socks off with great playing and terrific renditions of original and classic bluegrass tunes. Members of the band are Butch Waller on mandolin, his brother Bob Waller on guitar, Larry Cohea on banjo, Glenn Dauphin on bass, Tom Bekeny on fiddle and Jim Mintun on dobro (resonator guitar). At Pacifica Performances Mildred Owen Concert Hall, 1220 Linda Mar Blvd. at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday, Nov. 10

Sterling Art.Chi.Tech. Hair and Face Opening Day

Makeup and hair artist Maureen Sterling is celebrating the grand opening of her new Pacifica salon. Located in the former home of Visions Hair Designs in Vallemar, the event will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. with legendary Bay Area musician Jose Najera and his Bernal Beat band playing Latin funk, blues, rock and salsa. At 156 Reina Del Mar.

Saturday, Nov. 9 & Sunday, Nov. 10

St. Peter Holiday Boutique

St. Peter has been hosting this annual event for over 30 years and it is a great way to start your holiday season. With over 25 vendors featuring wonderful handmade items as well as vendors like Pamper Chef, Tupperware and Avon.  There will be a Children's Craft Room that is supervised.

Spindrift Players’ “Social Security”

Pacifica Spindrift Players is proud to present the hilarious comedy "Social Security" by Andrew Bergman. "Social Security" was first performed in 1986 in a successful year-long run on Broadway starring Marlo Thomas, Ron Silver, and Olympia Dukakis. Like so many classics, however, this touching and funny show has stood the test of time. The show takes place in the trendy New York apartment of David and Barbara Kahn, who are successful Manhattan art gallery owners. Runs through Nov. 24, weekends, and two Thursday night performances, Nov. 7 and 14, at the Pacifica Spindrift Players Theater, 1050 Crespi Drive.
