It's nice to see how the other half lives. And to see where they live.

Movoto Real Estate recently ranked the top ten richest small towns in America.

The median household and median home value of communities with populations between 30,000 and 80,000 were ranked. Then those towns were judged on a variety of categories – luxury car dealers per capita, country clubs per capita, expensive jewelry stories, fine dining establishments, distance to the nearest polo field, distance to the nearest yacht club – you get the idea.

Movoto then ranked the ten richest towns. A gallery featuring the communities is attached this post. The rankings were:

1. Bethesda, MD.
2. Palo Alto, Calif.
3. McLean, Virginia
4. Redondo Beach, Calif.
5. Menlo Park, Calif.
6. Lexington, Mass.
7. Brentwood, Tenn.
8. Foster City, Calif.
9. Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.
10. Laguna Niguel
10. Hoboken New Jersey

Visited any of the towns on the list? How does your community stack up?

These so-called small towns around the beltway/dc area should not be counted; they are only rich because of the inordinate amounts of money taken from the rest of the country and funneled into the capital (think hunger games...).

They should check out Elko, Nevada. It is 300 miles north east of Reno.

Rancho Palo Verdes, CA is a suburb of LA. A small town is not wall to wall city surrounding it. What a bunch of idiots.

Agree with many of the comments in re to definition of "small towns"-- suburban sprawl shouldn't count. Rich small towns that I would think would be on such a list include New Canaan, CT; Bronxville, NY; Greenwich, CT (technically a city, but probably smaller than many on the list), Locust Valley, Manhasset, Muttontown, and other LI Gold Coast towns.... The list goes on....

Umm. I think The Town of East Hampton beats them all.
