Second Annual Alister MacKenzie Tournament a 'Great Success'

Locals celebrate Sharp Park Golf Course's 81 years in Pacifica as the "Poor Man's Pebble Beach."

Jointly sponsored by the San Francisco Public Golf Alliance, Pacifica Historical Society, Pacifica Chamber of Commerce, and Sharp Park women's and men's golf clubs, the Second Annual Alister MacKenzie Tournament at Sharp Park Golf Course last month was a "great success," according to Richard Harris, co-founder and president of San Francisco Public Golf Alliance.

"The event is not just a fundraiser to defend Sharp Park Golf Course, it's a bit of a community builder," said Harris. "We are currently talking about continuing this event next year. We enjoy working with the Chamber and the Historical Society, and supporting public seaside links like Sharp Park."

Two hundred fifty golfers from 11 to 93 years old gathered from all over the Bay Area at Sharp Park in Pacifica on June 22 for the event, playing golf from sunrise to sunset in celebration of Sharp Park's 81 years as the "Poor Man's Pebble Beach."

A BBQ lunch at the 11th tee, a visit from a neighboring fox at the 15th tee, and 93-year-old Frank D. "Sandy" Tatum, Jr. leading his San Francisco Club foursome to an Afternoon Round winning score of 13-under-par 59 were some of the highlights of the day.
