In Case You Missed It: SF Giants

VIDEO: Blanco's Catch for the Ages Saves Cain's Perfect Game.

Matt Cain was as dominant as a pitcher could be Wednesday, but he wouldn’t have been perfect if not for right fielder Gregor Blanco's amazing catch.

Blanco chased a drive into the gap in right center, diving onto the warning track with his back to the infield to rob Jordan Schafer of an easy double leading off the seventh.

That wasn't the only great defensive play the Giants made behind Cain, who became just the 22nd pitcher in MLB history to throw a perfect game and the first in the franchise's 129-year history going back to New York.

Melky Cabrera’s running catch against the wall with one out the sixth on Chris Snyder’s soaring drive to left was memorable too.

Blanco's catch would have been highlight-reel-worthy in an exhibition game, but considering what was at stake, it might just rank among the most important defensive plays of all time.
