Westmoor High Community Raising Money For Baseball Player Battling Bone Cancer

Funds are needed to fly his birth parents from the Marshall Islands to visit him and to pay for medical bills.

David Lait, a 16-year-old student who plays baseball at Westmoor High School, was recently diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer called Osteosarcoma.

He is originally from the Marshall Islands in the South Pacific and has been in the U.S. since the fifth grade living with his guardian family. There will be tremendous medical costs endured by his family and certainly ongoing need, but the immediate goal is to pay for airfare for his birth mother and father to fly from the Marshall Islands to be at his side.

Five years ago, David came to live with his foster family in Pacifica and started with virtually nothing--no English, no friends, and no team. Now they have a strong support system in their family, Westmoor High School and the Westmoor baseball community.

It's a mark of David’s bravery and general awesomeness that so many people are willing to rally around him, but it's also a reminder of how lucky he is to have a family, school, community and coach who can spearhead the effort.

If you have an opportunity please read this article about him.
