Volunteers Needed for Measure N School Bond Oversight Committee

There are currently eight vacancies on the Jefferson Union High School District’s Measure N committee.

With the passage of the Jefferson Union High School District’s Measure N school bond, the District is soliciting for volunteers from the community to serve on the Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee. The term for current committee members ends Dec. 31, 2013.

Measure N was passed in 2006 and authorizes Jefferson Union High School District to issue bonds in an amount not to exceed $136.9 million for projects to: repair or replace electrical and technological systems, plumbing systems, classroom interiors, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, roofs, gutters, drains, downspouts, athletic facilities, facility exteriors, and student support facilities; construct, furnish and equip new classrooms, libraries and other education facilities; make safety and accessibility improvements; and increase energy efficiency.

Membership is prescribed by the guidelines of the voter approved Proposition 39 and includes representatives from several important constituencies.  There are currently eight vacancies on the committee:

  • three members of the Community at Large
  • two members – parents or guardians of a child enrolled in the District
  • one member representing a Senior Citizens Organization
  • one member representing the Business Community
  • one member active in a bona-fide Taxpayers Association

To qualify for membership, a person must be at least 18 years of age and reside within the geographic boundary of the Jefferson Union High School District.  Any district employee, official of the District or any vendor, contractor or consultant of the District may not be considered for membership.

Duties include reviewing expenditures of bond monies for compliance with the law, issuing an annual report and informing the community of the progress and appropriateness of bond expenditures.

The Committee must convene at least annually but will meet several times a year as ultimately defined by the Committee.  Committee membership terms will be for two years, with two of the seven members initially serving one year terms.

If you have a desire to serve and are available to participate on the Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee for the Jefferson Union High School District, please notify the school district in writing by January 3, 2014.

Please include a brief letter of interest with your name, address, phone number and e-mail address, noting the constituency you represent and any particular talents you might bring to this committee.  Please send this letter of interest to:
