Video: Teachers Prepare Thursday For Protests

Up to 40 teachers at every school in Pacifica School District are expected to protest this morning.

Teachers in the will hold protests beginning at 8 a.m. today to send a message to legislators in Sacramento that they cannot sustain any more cuts. 

Debbie Skiles, president of the Laguna Salada Education Association, which represents K-6th grade teaching staff in Pacifica, said she expects at least 30 or 40 teachers to be holding signs made at the Thursday afternoon for parents and administrators to see. 

These protests are part of the California Teachers Association's . The purpose of this week, given to lobbying efforts in Sacramento and protests by public school staffs across the state, is to prompt legislators to craft something other than an all-cuts state education budget.

In the last three years alone, about $20 billion has been cut from the state's education budget, causing larger class sizes, reduced support staff, wage freezes and benefit reductions. 

This is beside the reductions local school districts have made and during the Recession.

After the local protests this morning, teachers from Pacifica and around the region will gather in San Francisco to continue their protests.
