  • Ten Jefferson High School Students and two teachers, Erica Olsen and Erin Peters, were selected to attend the Close Up conference in Washington, DC on February 26 – March 4. The Close Up program gives students from all over the country a chance to converse with one another about politics and social issues, opening up dialogue and creating awareness.  Presenting a slideshow of pictures, the group discussed their visit to famous landmarks such as the Capitol Building, the Hiroshima Monument, Vietnam Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, and the Newseum.  A highlight of the trip was meeting with Bay Area native Dave Minetta, Deputy Director of Demand Reduction with the Office of National Drug Control Policy and also having a chance meeting with Sentor Barbara Boxer.

One student, George Guzman, said of the trip, “This experience changed the way I think. Now, I’m interested in politics.”  All of the students sincerely thanked the Board for such an amazing experience.

  • Mike Crilly, Superintendent, discussed the new updates for the Parcel Tax, or Measure C, campaign.  Information about Measure C is available on the newly launched website, www.voteforstrongschools.com.  Crilly encouraged individuals to visit the website and signup for updates, including dates for upcoming informational phone calls. The website is also equipped to accept donations, an important element of the site.  Lastly, Crilly announced that the state superintendent, Tom Torlakson, is endorsing the campaign.
