—By Angela Swartz—

The Pacifica Education Foundation (PEF) is hosting a fundraiser on June 8 and registration is still open.

More than 100 people have registered for PEFathon III to help PEF makes its goal for 2013. PEF helps support instrumental music in the middle schools and 21st century experiences in every grade to support public education in the Pacifica School District.

The event takes place at San Pedro Valley Park in Pacifica.

Participants can choose between three courses:

• The Hazelnut 7k Challenge will take place at 9 a.m.
• The Trout Farm 5k Fun Run will be at 10 a.m.
• The Family 3.2k Fun Walk at 11 a.m.

Stephanie McAuliffe co-chairs the event and notes that although she doesn’t have kids herself, the reason she’s involved in the organization is because she believes every child should be able to get to their full potential.

“It’s also a fun community event for every fitness level,” McAuliffe said. “For many people first official run, entering them in the world of a competitive athlete. It’s a nice community feel.”

Participants receive a T-shirt, breakfast and there will be a fun area for children. There will also be prize drawings.

Each person who raises $100 or more will be entered into three drawings for gift cards to Sports Authority ($50, $25 and $100).

Each person who raises $300 or more will be entered into a drawing for family passes to Great America. Team members whose team averages $300 per person are also eligible. The team exhibiting the most spirit on their fundraising page will win a first prize ribbon and a $100 Amazon gift card.

Carol Morales Burnham is leading a training group and can be contacted at events@pacificaef.org for information.

McAuliffe said that after the even there will be Irish hurling for children.
