Pacifica Youth Need Mentors -- Learn How You Can Get Involved

One local boy benefited from the Friends for Youth program. Help others like him.

Devin needed a friend. He was having trouble connecting to classmates and he was struggling academically. A school counselor noticed Devin’s troubles and so referred Devin to the Friends for Youth program to get a mentor.

A mentor is a positive adult who is a Friend and guide. A mentor meets with his or her mentee once a week doing activities they both like.

Devin was excited to get started in the program, but there was one large setback: he lived in Pacifica. Pacifica was a great place to live, but there weren’t any mentors there. So Devin had to wait. He had to wait nearly a year.

Luckily, Lu came along. Like Devin, Lu lived on the coast. And, like Devin, Lu was ready to make a new Friend. Friends for Youth screened and trained Lu to ensure he could perform as a fantastic, safe mentor.

Together they had fun, all sorts. They went hiking along the coast by their home, they took BART to a Golden State Warriors game, and they took a tour of an automotive repair shop.

After a year of meeting weekly, they decided they hadn’t had their fill of fun. They still meet regularly, always looking for new experiences and deepening their Friendship.

There are many more youth like Devin living in the North peninsula, waiting for a positive Friend. That Friend could be you!

Friends for Youth is having an information session to introduce new mentors to our program at the Sharp Park Library on May 16.
