Pacifica Schools Well-Supported in Measure L Vote

Barring any unforeseen change in the count, Measure L for passage Tuesday night. 

When mail-on ballot counts were published by the San Mateo County Elections Office just after 8 p.m. last night, the parcel tax extension and increase was shy of the 66 percent approval mark, but when semi-final vote totals came in at 11 p.m., the Measure L campaign supporters had done their jobs: 68.78 percent of voters said "yes."

Measure L will generate $1.2 million annually for math, science, reading and writing programs, as well as protect teachers’ salaries and funding for libraries, struggling students, and classroom computer instruction.

The current Pacifica School District parcel tax expires in 2013, but following Measure L's approval, it will increase from $96 a year to $118 a year until 2017.

, president of Saving Pacifica Schools, one driving force behind Measure L's success, was contacted Tuesday night for comment on the win but has not yet responded.

Although today's results are still listed as semifinal, and some ballots may remain uncounted, it's safe to say that Pacifica voters have agreed to a continued partnership with the .
