Eight Teachers on Leave After Millbrae Child Abuse Arrest

Millbrae resident and Redwood City teacher was arrested last week on child abuse charges.

Eight Redwood City School District employees were placed on administrative leave on Thursday as a result of an internal investigation that followed a.

Alexia Aliki Bogdis, a 44-year-old Millbrae resident and  special education teacher, allegedly slapped and kicked students and deprived them of food, according to San Mateo County Chief Deputy District Attorney Karen Guidotti.

“Our internal investigation raised questions for which we need answers in order to ensure the safety of our students, which is our top priority at all times,” Redwood City Superintendent Jan Christensen said in a statement. “We need more information to determine exactly what happened.”

Bogdis turned herself into authorities on Feb. 4 after police issued a warrant based on a report from Child Protective Services regarding possible physical abuse of students.

The victims are two 4-year-old boys, and the abuse occurred over the last few months, according to the Child Protective Services report.

The Redwood City School District placed Bogdis on administrative leave on Feb. 1 when the abuse allegations emerged.  

“We are also committed to providing a fair process to all employees involved in this situation and we determined that the only way to ensure a just result for all is to place these employees on administrative leave and commence an independent investigation into the allegations,” Christensen said.

Bogdis was released on $15,000 bail, and is scheduled to appear in San Mateo County Superior Court on March 1.
