Beware Traffic During Construction on School Route Next Week

City planning resurfacing on Terra Nova Boulevard as some students return to school next week.

Parents taking their students to today shouldn't worry, but beginning Aug. 22, traffic will be backed up on Terra Nova Boulevard after school due to construction.

Between Everglades Drive and Oddstad Boulevard on Terra Nova Boulevard, the city will be resurfacing the road and installing new sidewalks with handicap ramps, Raymund Donguines, Associate Civil Engineer for the City of Pacifica, said.

Starting Aug. 22, the contractor hired by the city, CF Archibald, will be tearing up and rebuilding the sidewalks. Construction will go on from 9a.m. to 4p.m. every weekday but not on weekends, Donguines said.

School starts at Terra Nova High School, on Terra Nova Boulevard, and at on Wednesday, Aug. 17, and at Pacifica elementary and middle schools, including , also on Terra Nova Boulevard, on Aug. 24.

Donguines said drivers should expect traffic in the afternoon and seek alternate routes.

The city will also be doing roadwork on Hicky Boulevard between Gateway Drive and Inverness Drive after construction is done on Terra Nova. In total, construction has an allowed window of 35 weekdays.

Please tell me why this wasn't scheduled a month ago? What a nightmare this will be.

This is the most stupid bit of planning I have ever heard of. The first full week of school they are tearing up the street. The noise, the confusion, the disruption, the traffic....what a way to start a peaceful new year of school. They couldn't have done it in June or July??????????????????????? This is ridiculous!!!!!!!!!

TOTALLY ridiculous...but on the bright side, a golden opportunity to have my kids walk to school!
