Pacifica Mobile Home Park Owners Want to Raise Rents

The steep increase would double the rent for owners and be used to pay for $1.5 million in improvements.

Mobile home owners at Pacific Skies may soon see their rents double, according to the Pacifica Tribune.

There are 93 homes at the Palmetto Avenue mobile home park. Tenants own their trailers but rent the space from the park, however, 15 of the homes are owned by individuals, and not rented by the park. It's those homes that could see a rent increase of $1,119.58 per month on top of the nearly $1,300 some homes pay, according to the Tribune report.

This would double the rent for many owners, a steep increase that many say they just can't afford. It's up to the park's owners to convince officers at a hearing that the rent increase is justified.

Pacific Skies needs to raise rents in order to pay for $1.5 million in improvements, such as new gas and sewer lines.

The mobile homes do have rent control because of a 1991 law so the rent increase is not official. A hearing has yet to be scheduled.
