Supes May Decide Sharp Park's Fate This Afternoon

A vote could turn the golf course over to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area as a park.

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors will take its first vote this afternoon on whether Sharp Park should become a national park or remain a golf course.

A county park code amendment championed by Supervisor John Avalos without a recommendation to the whole board. The amendment would require the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, which manages , to offer the land to the National Park Service for incorporation into the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The NPS has already indicated it will take the land if the amendment passes and golf at Sharp Park will be discontinued.

Today, at a 2p.m. meeting, all 11 supervisors will have a chance to weigh in and then vote either to approve the amendment on first reading or send it back to the committee for changes.
