Pete de Jarnatt Leaves City Council After 16 years

de Jarnatt: 'I can no longer do the job as effectively as I like. I'm burned out. You have to have a very thick skin to do this job.'

Known for championing environmental causes, Pete de Jarnatt leaves office this week after 16 years in service on the City Council. Pacifica's new term limits would not have prevented him from running for another term, but according to the Pacifica Tribune, de Jarnatt says he felt it was time to leave.

"I knew it was time to leave," de Jarnatt, 60, said in the Pacifica Tribune article. "I can no longer do the job as effectively as I like. I'm burned out. You have to have a very thick skin to do this job. Fortunately, only a small number of people are constantly attacking you, but I'm weary of it. It's time for new people to come in."

He'll still be active in the community by serving on a few boards and committees and by volunteering.

My first nightmarish memory of PD dates back to the '90s when I was watching a Council meeting on TV and he used Council Communications to call for a City-wide boycott of the new ribs biz on Palmetto. The owner dared to post a sign in his shop that advocated a position contrary to the one held by PD and the Council majority on some matter I can’t remember. What I do remember was my complete shock that an elected public official could use his office and the resources of the city he served to attempt to destroy an individual and their livelihood because they disagreed with him. He and the city should have been sued for such a stunt. The rib shop eventually went out of business but I will NEVER forget that shameful incident. The above was one of many stunts pulled by PD in the name of faux environmentalism or anything else that suited his purpose. It’s not as if PD was on the ball and actually researched issues coming before Council. Amazingly, he admitted under oath in the Fish and Bowl litigation that he didn't remember whether or not he attended college, and that he often did not understand materials given him for Council meetings and would ask the City Attorney about how to vote. While mayor, PD personally killed the dog beach at Sharp Park (approved by the 2000 Council) by keeping it off the consent calendar and calling for an environmental review with unlawful stipulations. Nothing about this man deserves celebration or recognition. He will not be missed.

Amazingly, he admitted under oath in the Fish and Bowl litigation that he didn't remember whether or not he attended college, and that he often did not understand materials given him for Council meetings and would ask the City Attorney about how to vote He boasted at council meeetings that John Curtis, would call him and tell him how to vote. Pete, deserves a one way ticket out of town and the council will act like he is a hero. Not a hero, but a big zero.

now on K Tel records, all of Dejarnatts greatest hits and misses "western snowy plover blues" "you you you people" "our economy has never been stronger" "$7 million reserve" "tar balls" "We got all our money back on Fish & Bowl" with the bonus track: "I appealed Palmetto projects because John Curtis told me to" btw, why is Keri santos posting? I checked the internet, she does not exist. I think she is a Fix Pacifica plant!

Dejarnatt in summary: 1. Predictable voting - always "No" on any project that served anyone other than the perverted, self-serving view of environmentalism of the clatch that put him in office, 2. Gift all Pacifica city owned prime property to the GGNRA to block any possible economic stimulating development/use. 3. Take advantage of any and all financial perks as a Councilmember, After all, other than his disability claim and his mother's generosity, this was his only paycheck. 4, Never publically explain his voting record. The last thing he or anyone else would describe him as would be a "public servant". 5. Attend as few City Council meetings as possible without jeopardizing his lucrative paycheck and pension. Again, it was always the paycheck, not his fiduciary responsibility to city business, that he was interested in. 6. Hide behind the "environmentalist" label because that got him the most votes and support in this town. However, never speak publically about environmental issues and risk showing his constituents how truly ignorant he was in this area. 7. Demand that the city keep the likes of City Attorney Cecelia Quick on the payroll so that he never had to study up on any of the Council agenda items. Remember, it was always about putting in as few hours as possible as a Councilmember in order to maximize his actual per-hour worked compensation. 8. Promulgate his hatred of dogs
