Pacifica Unemployment Rate Hovers Near 9.5 Percent

Pacifica has 8th highest unemployment rate with 2,100 residents out of work.

Pacifica's unemployment rate is hovering around 9.5 percent so far in 2011, according to data released by the California Employment Development Department on Friday. 

Pacifica's April unemployment rate of 9.4 percent--2,100 people out of jobs--was the 8th highest in San Mateo County, with South San Francisco 7th and Half Moon Bay 9th.

Pacifica's April unemployment rate is well below California's rate, which fell by .1 percent to 11.9 percent, and slightly above the national rate, which rose to 9 percent from 8.8 percent.

Pacifica had a much higher unemployment rate in April than San Mateo County's 8.2 percent, however. 

Unemployment rates in cities close to Pacifica, as well as in Pacifica, seem to be holding steady so far in 2011.

In January 2011, Pacifica's unemployment rate was at 9.6 percent. That rate dipped in February to 9.4 percent and then rose to 9.6 percent again in March.

The unemployment rate in  Half Moon Bay was 8.5 percent in January, 8.4 percent in February and 8.6 percent in March. South San Francisco's was 10.3 percent in January, 10.1 percent in February and 10.3 percent in March. Daly City's was 10.4 percnet in January, 10.2 percent in February and 10.4 percent in March. All of these cities, and most in the county, show a significant drop in their unemployment rates from April 2010, however.

During that month, Pacifica's unemployment rate was 10.2 percent, Half Moon Bay's was 9.1 percent, South San Francisco's was 10.9 percent and Daly City's was 11 percent.
