Main Street Pacifica in the Making

Utility undergrounding has begun on Palmetto Avenue, the first project in creating a main street for Pacifica.

This week Pacifica City Council members, city personnel and business leaders kicked off the undergrounding of the utilities on Palmetto Avenue with an unveiling of a sign at Brighton Park that announces the work being done on this first portion of the new streetscape.

Workers officially began the undergrounding work this week, restricting street parking while the work is underway.

The undergrounding, paid by PG&E, is one of two projects in the works to create a Main Street for Pacifica.

Once the undergrounding is done by 2014, the streetscape project, enhancing the creation of a “main street," will begin. This will transform Palmetto into a historic main street scene with planters, parking enclosures, street trees, and streetlights.

The $2.2 million project is paid for by the Pacifica’s City Capital Improvement Fund and grant and is slated for completion by 2015.
