Last Chance To Protest Garbage Rate Increase Is Monday

Recology of the Coast, which manages Pacifica's waste, has requested an 8 percent increase.

The Pacifica City Council will hear from community members about a proposed 8 percent increase to garbage rates in Pacifica Monday night at its meeting.

Pacifica residents can still protest the increase via writing until the end of the public hearing Monday evening. If a simple majority of the 11,582 ratepayers make a protest, then the city council is obligated to deny Recology's request. As of May 17, the city had received just 171 protest letters, or 1.4 percent of the total possible.

According to the city, a typical residential ratepayer would see their bill go up by $19.44 annually.
