Former Councilman Goes Missing, Returns Home Safe

Jim Vreeland, who resigned from the Pacifica City Council last week, was reported missing by his wife.

The San Jose Mercury News reported that Jim Vreeland, 49, who resigned his Pacifica City Council seat last week over undisclosed health issues, went missing Saturday but returned home on his own, uninjured, hours later. 

Laurie Vreeland, his wife, called police at about 11 a.m. Saturday to report that her husband was missing, police said. He returned on his own at about 3 p.m. Police would not release any more details about the incident. Laurie made no comment to the Mercury.

The Mercury reported that visitors to could see police looking for Vreeland, who lives less than a mile from the beach.

"Some were left concerned about what the report meant for the former mayor's health," Joshua Melvin of the San Jose Mercury News wrote.

Vreeland has been on the council since 1998, and was up for reelection in 2014. After many and rumors about the status of his health, he on Feb. 27, citing medical issues.
