Election Day Is Here

Today is the last chance for Pacifica residents to drop off their ballots.

Today is the last day Pacifica residents can cast their vote in the special election, which will determine who fills the District 1 spot on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors and whether a parcel tax for local high schools, just one of twelve across the region this election, will pass. 

The following six candidates are running in the Supervisors election. Click on their names to view brief profiles:

This is the first time the county has filled a seat on the board of supervisors through an all-mail election.

Jefferson Union High School District estimates it could raise about $3.2 million annually for four years with Measure C, it's for a parcel tax after r. 

This extra boost in funding, representing just over 7 percent of the current annual budget of the district ($44 million), would be used to retore previously-cut core academic programs and for non-administration salaries.

Measure C would come to residents as a flat $96-per-year tax for each parcel of land owned. Senior citizens can apply for an examption. More information about Measure C can be found on its website

Pacifica City Clerk Kathy O'Connell said that ballots should be dropped off at Pacifica City Hall at 170 Santa Maria Avenue by 4:30p.m. today because the county has notified her that it will come to pick them up between that time and 5p.m., when city offices close. Ballots can also be dropped off in San Mateo at the county Elections Office at 40 Tower Road and in Redwood City at 555 County Center until 8 p.m.

Ballots can only be dropped off in person or received by the county Elections Office in the mail today. A ballot postmarked with today's date but received later will not be accepted.
