Ceremello, Batchelor Pull Papers for Mayor

Jerry Castanon First to Pull for Council Seat

First thing Monday morning, as soon as interested citizens could pull papers for elected office, Michael Ceremello, Dixon City Councilman wasted no time and pulled papers to run for Mayor.

Ceremello is completing his first four-year term on Dixon’s City Council and announced his intention to run several months ago in his weekly column published in the Independent Voice.

Ceremello promises “bald leadership” mocking Mayor Jack Batchelor’s campaign slogan based on ‘Bold Leadership’  in the last election. Ceremello is currently the Vice Mayor. Attempts to reach him by phone were not successfu.

Mayor Batchelor made his trek into City Hall later that afternoon to pull papers for what he hopes will result in his re-election.

“I am looking forward  to beginning the campaign,” he said. “I’m looking forward to a lot of issues to be discussed—not personal issues. It is all about who can best move the city forward. I am proud of what we’ve done.”

Batchelor said he has already been busy getting his campaign literature lined up and working on getting donors.

“Campaigning requires money and talking to the citizens of Dixon,” he said. Batchelor was elected to City Council in 2006 and to the Mayor’s spot in 2008.

Also on Monday, Jerry Castanon, who serves on Dixon’s City Planning Commission pulled papers to run for City Council. There are two seats open on the Council. One to replace Rick Fuller who said he would not run again and the other for Ceremello’s seat.

I think mayor batchelor has performed well the last few years. I wish him luck for the new election. I also like dane besneatte. As for cermello, I believe he is lacking capability to do this job as a representative for the people. He is more for himself. I don't think he plays with a full deck. If you have ever talked to him, you would realize there is something amiss with him.

I know it is difficult to dissect a person's personality from the issues at hand but it is important to discern issues. Stay focused on which candidates agree most with one's personal philosophies about moving Dixon--with integrity and pride--onward.

Though Mike Ceremello seems to be a bit "off the grid", he'll have my vote again. I like the fact he questions all aspects of government spending. He doesn't spend city money likes it's growing on trees. (Remember, it's OUR money.) He makes sure the spending is necessary. (He may be the only elected official that does that!) Jack Batchelor seems to do his job as Mayor just like any career government employee would.
