Gas Leak Prompts Evacuation

Fire companies responded to a report of a possible explosion in Pacifica this morning.

On Saturday morning at 8:21 a.m., four fire companies and a chief officer responded to a possible explosion at the Pacifica Ross Department store.

The first crew to arrive at the 1410 Linda Mar Blvd. business reported a strong smell of natural gas. Carbon monoxide detectors were sounding as they entered the building.

Fire officials evacuated the store and the adjoining Rite-Aid, shut down the heating system and ventilated the building. They worked with PG&E to find the source of gas.
