Witnesses Cannot Confirm Alleged Assault, Homophobic Slurs at Bus Stop, Police Say

An update on the alleged assault of a Pacifica man by Terra Nova High School students.

Police said today that witnesses of the on May 25 said they did not see an assault, nor did they hear homophobic slurs that allegedly preceeded it. 

Pacifica Police Captain Dave Bertini said that three witnesses were interviewed on Friday and more have been contacted since, but although they saw the alleged victim, Brandon Moore, standing at a bus stop at the intersection of Mason Drive and Terra Nova Boulevard with a number of what appeared to be students of nearby , none heard anything yelled at Moore nor saw an assault. 

A detective has been assigned to the case and is still trying to determine who else might have witnessed the incident, Bertini said.

When Pacifica Patch asked if Moore had in fact identified 13 students in a school yearbook that were allegedly in the group of 19 that surrounded him during the assault, which Moore said he had on Friday, Bertini declined to comment. 

Bertini also said that Moore told police that one of the students "either pushed or punched" him at the bus stop after yelling homophobic slurs about his perceived sexual orientation. Moore said Friday that he was punched twice during the incident.

Moore identifies himself as homosexual, and told Pacifica Patch on Friday that he believes the alleged assault was a hate crime.
