VIDEO: Pacifica Motorist Destroys Fire Hydrant on Hickey Blvd After Accident in South San Francisco Minutes Earlier

Driver was experiencing mechanical difficulties from previous accident

A Pacifica motorist drove off the rode and hit a fire hydrant and another car on the corner of Hickey Boulevard and Inverness Drive this afternoon.

The driver, who wouldn’t disclose her name at the scene, said she was experiencing mechanical difficulties with her car because of another accident in South San Francisco five minutes beforehand.

"During the course of the investigation we determined that the driver that ran into the fire hydrant was actually involved in a previous collision in South San Francisco,” said Pacifica Police Corporal Bill Glasgo. “That (accident) caused some kind of unknown type of mechanical problems with her vehicle. According to a witness, the vehicle appeared like it may have had some engine problems, the driver looked as if she had some difficulty handling the vehicle and that’s when she hit the hydrant and then ran into the other car."

No injuries were reported at the scene.

"I got into an accident like five minutes before this one on the other side of hickey,” said the driver. “And I guess the lady went to stop and I didn’t stop. I owned it; I owned both of them. What came out of that was vehicle damage and the steering was bad, real bad. I couldn’t control the steering and ran into the fire hydrant."
