Sheriff's Office Launches Coastside Task Force to Crack Down On Gang Violence

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office is launching a new program to crack down on gang activity in the county's coastal communities.

The Coastside Neighborhood Response Team is meant to identify and monitor local gang members and their activities to help reduce gang-related crime in Half Moon Bay and nearby communities, sheriff's officials said.

In addition, the task force will help the sheriff's office create long-term solutions to combat gang activity, which has been on the rise on the coast over the past few years, according to the sheriff's office.

"The coastal communities of San Mateo County are among the most beautiful in the state of California. They remain wonderful places to raise families, conduct business and attract visitors," Sheriff Greg Munks said in a statement.

"I will not allow recent incidents of gang activity and gang violence to impact the quality of life that our coastside residents have worked so hard to achieve," Munks said.
