Update: Missing Daly City Man Identified as Fatal Hit-and-Run Victim in Pacifica

Ishwar Patel is described as an Indian man with black hair and dark eyes. He is about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs about 180 pounds.

UPDATE 1/16/14:

A missing Daly City man has been identified as the victim of a fatal hit-and-run collision that occurred in Pacifica on Tuesday evening, authorities said.

Ishwar Patel, 71, was reported missing around 8 p.m. Tuesday after he failed to return to his Daly City home.

The California Highway Patrol issued a Silver Alert and said he suffered from a medical condition and was possibly disoriented.

That same night, a pedestrian was struck and killed around 7:40 p.m. in the first block of Palmetto Avenue in Pacifica, police said. The man hit was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the San Mateo County coroner's office, the victim was Patel.

Pacifica police Capt. Joe Spanheimer confirmed that the missing man and the pedestrian were the same person.

The driver who struck him fled afterward and has not yet been found, Spanheimer said today.

The vehicle is described only as a gray or dark-colored car that may be a Chevrolet Monte Carlo or a Dodge Charger. The car was last seen heading north on Palmetto Avenue, police said.

The California Highway Patrol and Daly City police are searching for an elderly at-risk man who was last seen at his Daly City home at about 8 p.m. Tuesday.

CHP Officer Kevin Bartlett said Daly City police have issued an alert and are asking anyone who might have seen 71-year-old Ishwar Patel to call police.

Patel is described as an Indian man with black hair and dark eyes. He is about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs about 180 pounds.

Patel suffers from a medical condition and may be disoriented, Bartlett said.

Anyone who comes into contact with Patel is asked to call police at (650) 991-8119.
