Pacifica Readies for National Night Out

Annual event promotes awareness of the role of law enforcement agencies as an integral part of communities throughout the nation.

Pacifica Police Chief Jim Tasa and other high-ranking law enforcement officials will traverse the city's streets Tuesday night, meeting and greeting local residents participating a national event promoting public safety awareness.

Barbecues and ice cream socials will be held throughout the city in honor of "."

Residents are encouraged to turn on their porch lights from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. to honor the event.

National Night Out promotes an engaged citizenry, with neighbors encouraged to interact with each other and get to know law enforcement officials in their community.

Tasa encourages community-minded residents to join or form Neighborhood Watch groups actively promoting public safety.

National Night Out has been held annually on the first Tuesday in August since 1984.

No road closures are expected.

"We are really excited to be bringing National Night Out to the block level," Tasa said in a statement last month.

" This is a great opportunity for neighbors and business communities to get to know each other and if they aren’t already part of Neighborhood Watch, this will be a perfect time to get it started!"
