Pacifica Police Chase Daly City Man Wanted on Several Warrants

The pursuit lasted approximately 18 minutes, covered three cities and two counties.

A pursuit that lasted about 18 minutes covered three cities and two counties before Pacifica Police finally got their suspect.

In the early hours of June 10, a Pacifica officer spotted a possible drunk driver headed northbound on Highway 1 at its intersection with SR35.

Using his emergency lights, the officer signaled for the car to pull over. The driver stopped at the off-ramp from southbound I-280. Shortly after the officer got out of his cruiser, the driver sped away onto northbound Highway 1, then turned onto northbound I- 280.

Jumping back in his car, the officer began a pursuit of the Chevrolet Tahoe. The chase went northbound on I-280, onto US101 near Candlestick Point, through a couple of surface streets in San Francisco, and eventually back into San Mateo County.

Calling for backup, officers from Daly City and the California Highway Patrol joined in the pursuit of the Tahoe.

The pursuit ended in Daly City after the suspect parked the SUV in a residential driveway. The driver, 28-year-old Fuatau Tagata of Daly City, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, felony evasion of a police officer, driving with a suspended driver’s license, and for arrest warrants for charges of DUI, possession of stolen property, and battery upon a police officer.

The suspect was taken to the San Mateo County Jail in Redwood City and booked into custody.

No injuries or property damage occurred during the vehicle pursuit. A passenger in the car was briefly detained at the scene, then released.
