Officials Release More Information About Victims, But Still No Cause of Fire

A teenage boy and his great-grandfather are believed to have been the victims of a that destroyed a home in Pacifica on Sunday morning, San Mateo County coroner Robert Foucrault said Monday.

Foucrault said the identities of the two males who died in the three-alarm fire had not been confirmed as of this afternoon, but based on preliminary information from family members at the scene, the victims were likely a boy in his early teens and the boy's great-grandfather, a man in his 90s.

School officials and family members say that , 13, and the man was his great grandfather, 91. 

Eleven other people were able to safely escape the fire, which was first reported in a home at 552 Inverness Drive at about 5:55 a.m., Lucett said.

Two adults and a child were taken to San Francisco General Hospital suffering minor injuries from smoke inhalation and a burned arm, Lucett said.

Arriving firefighters reported heavy flames coming from windows on both floors of the two-story home.

The fire was too intense to fight it from the interior, Lucett said.

Occupants of the home who had evacuated told firefighters that two people were possibly still inside.

When it was safe for crews to enter the structure, the bodies of two males were found inside, one on the first floor and one upstairs, Lucett said.

No firefighters were injured fighting the blaze, which was declared under control at 7:20 a.m.

As of Monday morning, fire officials were continuing to determine the cause.
