A South San Francisco man and a cohort, accused of leading Pacifica police on a high-speed chase while allegedly tossing out victims' personal information and drugs, are due in court Friday to face various charges.
Lorenzo Juan Castaneda, 27, of South San Francisco and Vincent Henry Vigil, 26, of San Francisco, are suspected of felony evading, destroying evidence, drug transportation and being under the influence of drugs.
They were being held in lieu of $100,000 each, pending a 9 a.m. appearance before San Mateo County Superior Court Judge Judge Jonathan Karesh, according to court papers.
The chase began Nov. 20 in Pacifica, when an officer tried to stop a vehicle for a code violation, officials said.
A chase ensued, during which the officer saw the suspects throw pieces of white paper from the vehicle — they later were etermined to contain personal information from a number of people other than the suspects.
The chase reached speeds as high as 100 mph and went from State Route 1 to Interstatate 280, as the vehicle made dangerous lane changes, police said.
The vehicle left the freeway on Junipero Serra Boulevard, in San Bruno, where the driver traveled on the shoulder to pass other vehicles, officials said.
At this point, someone opened a passenger door and tossed out a small plastic bag — it later was determined to be methamphetamine, police said.
Officers had to stop chasing the vehicle because of public safety reasons — there had been several near crashes on city street during the pursuit but police later found the vehicle and located the suspects nearby, officials said.
Both men were under the influence of drugs at the time of their capture, police said.
