Tuesday is National Night Out in Pacifica

Annual event promotes awareness of the role of law enforcement agencies as an integral part of communities throughout the nation.

Pacifica Police Chief Jim Tasa and other high-ranking law enforcement officials will traverse the city's streets Tuesday, Aug. 6, meeting and greeting local residents participating in a national event promoting public safety awareness.

National Night Out promotes an engaged citizenry, with neighbors encouraged to interact with each other and get to know law enforcement officials in their community.

Barbecues and ice cream socials will be held throughout the city in honor of National Night Out. Residents are encouraged to turn on their porch lights from 6:30 to 9 p.m. to honor the event.

It is up to each block and business that participates to decide how they want to gather together with their neighbors. You don’t have to be an official neighborhood watch group to participate in National Night Out. You may be a couple of neighbors who merely want to get to know each other better and promote safety in your neighborhood. This is a great way to start and begin an annual tradition in your neighborhood.

No road closures are expected.
