Firefighters Rescue Two Dogs from Apartment Blaze

The incident happened Thursday afternoon in Daly City.

Firefighters in Daly City saved two dogs from an apartment while knocking down a fire Thursday afternoon.

Fire crews responded to a report of a fire at a four-story apartment building in the 400 block of A Street at about 4:15 p.m., fire officials said.

When firefighters arrived, they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the building. Crews were able to extinguish the blaze before it spread to other units in the building, fire officials said.

During a search and rescue operation, firefighters found two dogs and saved them from the apartment. No people were injured in the blaze, officials said.

The unit that caught fire was completely damaged. The unit above sustained smoke damage and the building’s lobby sustained smoke and fire damage, according to fire officials.

Two residents of the apartment unit were displaced and are receiving housing assistance from the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, fire officials said.
