Driver Killed in Sunday Morning Crash Near Pescadero Identified

70-year-old man was Pescadero resident William Willett.

A 70-year-old man who when his car struck a tree near Pescadero has been identified by the San Mateo County coroner's office as William Willett.

The crash occurred on Pescadero Road near Butano Road at about 1:15 a.m.

An initial investigation revealed that Willett failed to negotiate a turn and crashed into a tree on the road's shoulder, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Willett, a Pescadero resident, was not wearing a seat belt.

Investigators are still looking into what caused the crash.
