Driver in Fatal Crash: 6 Accidents in 4 Years, Had Injured Others Before

District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said that, due to a seizure disorder he was well aware of, the driver in the fatal July 28 crash in San Bruno has had multiple crashes in the past few years that had hospitalized other victims.

San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe confirmed Friday that the medical condition Rodney Corsiglia - the driver in - suffered from was a seizure disorder, that had led to six other crashes in four years.

Wagstaffe told Patch that, between 2007 and 2011, Corsiglia was in six crashes caused by suffering a seizure while driving.

"He has long suffered from a seizure disorder that he takes medication for," Wagstaffe said. "And yes, he has injured others before."

Wagstaffe said, in one of the crashes in 2007, Corsiglia had slammed into another car, and though the people were not killed, they were hospitalized for multiple injuries such as fractured ribs, broken bones, abrasions, cuts and soreness of the back and neck.

All of this lead to the Department of Motor Vehicles permanently suspending Corsiglia's license in 2011, he said.

"The department told him, 'You can't drive anymore - you're a danger if you do so,'" Wagstaffe told Patch.

Nevertheless, Wagstaffe said Corsiglia knowingly violated the law by driving on July 28 anyway, and once again, he suffered a seizure while driving.

This time, two people were killed, and several others - including two children - were hospitalized.

Corsiglia rear-ended Arnulfo Picazo and Usbaldo Gomez, who were stopped at a light at Sneath Lane and El Camino Real. Corsiglia also struck two other vehicles that were stopped at the intersection.

, who had just left the baptism of Gomez's 1-year-old daughter at St. Bruno's Church, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Corsiglia now sits in San Mateo County Jail, and Wagstaffe said the District Attorney's Office is pursuing murder charges against him.

throw the book at this clown. should be easy to prove he was warned and drove knowing he might kill somebody. I'd say 25-life at least.

Bren, No need to vent your pent up anger at white people. Your statement is a perfect example ofRead More reverse racism. We live in an country where there are different races and different languages but the native language is English and to omit that language from any sign that was paid for by tax payers is a slap in the face. This has nothing to do with demographics or race wars. Take a step back, breath, and stop spreading your hate rhetoric.
