DA: Son of Former Millbrae School District Trustee Solicited Sex with Minor Through Facebook

Michael Darro allegedly used Facebook to make sexual advances with a nine-year-old girl.

Michael Darro allegedly solicited sex from the nine-year-old girl through Facebook using his father’s work computer, said San Mateo County District Attorney Stephen Wagstaffe.

Darro, 19, is the son of John Darro, a former Millbrae School District trustee and City Council candidate who ran in the November 2007 election.

The girl’s parents discovered the exchange and reported it to the Millbrae Police Department, which asked the District Attorney's Office to investigate, Wagstaffe said.

“Parents always need to do what parents in this case did, which is monitor their children’s electronic media outlets,” he said.

Wagstaffe said he didn’t know if the alleged victim and Darro were Facebook friends.

Wagstaffe said a friend of the nine-year-old, who according to court records is 15, got online and told Darro to back off.

Darro was charged with one felony and two misdemeanor charges. The felony and one misdemeanor are related to making sexual advances and annoying the nine-year-old Jane Doe.

The second misdemeanor stems from unlawfully annoying or molesting the 15-year-old girl.

If convicted, Darro could face up to three years in state prison for the charges, Wagstaffe said.

The District Attorney filed the criminal case on Friday, alleging that Darro, “did willfully and unlawfully contact or communicate with a minor…with the intent to commit a specified act, sex.”

The complaint says the alleged crime took place last November.

John Darro could not be reached at his Millbrae residence.

On Friday Michael Darro posted a $20,000 bail. His arraignment is scheduled for Aug. 9, Wagstaffe said.
