Illegally whizzing your motorcycle through San Mateo County this Friday could leave you with a steep ticket, as law enforcement officials will be patrolling motorcycle hot spots in an effort to increase safety on roadways.

The Motorcycle Safety Enforcement Operation, which will bring extra officers on duty patrolling areas where motorcycle crashes and moving violations most frequently occur, is being arranged by the Daly City, Colma and Burlingame police departments, according to Burlingame police Sgt. Jay Kiely.

Officers will be cracking down on all forms of violations, from traffic to those driving under the influence, according to Kiely.

The operation is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In 2013, five motorcyclists were killed in San Mateo County, according to data provided by the California Statewide Integrated Traffic Records Systems.
