Carlmont Grad Arrested for Allegedly Possessing Weapon of Mass Destruction

A teenage Russian national who graduated from Carlmont High School last spring, was arrested in his college town of Altoona, PA on Friday on charges of possessing a weapon of mass destruction, police in Altoona, Pa. said.

According to Fox News, 19-year-old Vladislav Miftakhov is in custody in Blair County (PA) Prison. His bail has been set at $500,000 as reported by the Altoona Mirror.

Altoona Mayor Matthew Pacifico said Miftakjov is a student at Penn State University Altoona, according to the Fox report. 

The report says police discovered the alleged bomb while investigating an alleged marijuana growing operation. 

Sources tell Belmont Patch that Miftakjov attended Carlmont High School and graduated in June 2013. Miftakjov's Facebook page lists San Carlos as his hometown, and contains photos and videos of his time as a student at Carlmont.

Miftakjov is charged with possessing a weapon of mass destruction, risking a catastrophe, possessing instruments of crime, prohibited offensive weapons, incendiary devices, recklessly endangering another person, and several drug-related charges, according to a press release posted on the Altoona Police Department Facebook page.

"The bomb was safely deconstructed by experts from the Pennsylvania State Police Bomb Squad," the statement read.

Miftakhov allegedly told investigators he bought the bomb-making materials online over the past few weeks, however, police did not release any details about a possible motive or possible targets. 

The Altoona Police Department said federal agencies had been notified and are assisting with the investigation, according to the Fox News report. 

Miftakhov is listed in the Penn State Altoona directory as an engineering major.
