UPDATED: Car Catches Fire Inside Rainier Avenue Auto Repair Shop

No one was injured in the fire.

A fire inside Star Auto, located at 215 S.W. Sunset Boulevard near the intersection with Rainier Avenue S. in under investigation after a car inside the shop caught fire late Friday afternoon.

Renton Fire and Emergency Services were dispatched to the repair shop just after 4:20 p.m. The call was upgraded to a 2nd alarm while units were in route because of a visible thermal column, according to officials.

The first units arrived within four minutes and 43 seconds of the fist call to find a single car “inside an auto repair facility that was well involved.” Firefighters extinguished the blaze within three minutes and 21 seconds of arrival of the first engine.

Having lived in Renton for about 40 yeas, I am unfamiliary with where Rainier Ave S and SW Sunset Bldv intersect? Can some one explain this to me?

It's funny how we have the timeline down to the second but we don't know which business it was at.

SW Sunset (SR 900) is the near Fred Meyer and comes down the hill from Skyway/West Hill. At the intersection with Rainier Ave S it turns into S Third Street (near Safeway). I've only lived in Renton for two years and it made me do a double-take until I check it on Google Maps. I hope that helps!

The Renton Fire Department keeps good statistics to make sure that they are serving us well. Kinda weird, but they have a map that will show you how long it will take for them to respond. The map I saw a few years ago looks like everybody in Renton was well covered (and quickly) except for a patch in Kennydale that was hard to get to.

Hi Karl, neither the address nor the business name was included in the initial report. I received the information this morning and have updated the article. The fire started inside Star Auto, located at 215 S.W. Sunset Boulevard. Thanks!
