Body Washes Ashore at San Gregorio Beach

A couple walking on the beach stumbled upon the body and called 9-1-1.

Authorities are attempting to identify a female whose body washed ashore on San Gregorio Beach in unincorporated San Mateo County Sunday just after midnight.

According to Detective Rebecca Rosenblatt, public information officer for the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, which is handling the case, the body washed up half a mile south of the San Gregorio Beach entrance.

A couple walking on the beach called 9-1-1 to report what they had found.

Upon arrival of rescue personnel, an unknown female was located just out of the surf line, Rosenblatt said.

The female was dressed in jeans, black boots and a red top, and had pink braces on her teeth.

"The body appeared to be that of a female. There were no obvious signs of trauma or cause of her death," Rosenblatt reported Monday.

At this time the female has not been identified, and is being treated as a "Jane Doe." Rosenblatt said the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office is working with the Coroner’s Office to learn her identity, and notify her family.

A notice has been sent out to all surrounding Law Enforcement Agencies to check if any females in the area have been reported missing.

Any person who may have additional information about this case is asked to contact Lt. Williams of the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office at 650-573-2844 or via e-mail at lwilliams@smcgov.org.

This is so sad. The fact she had pink braces makes me wonder if she was a young person whose family is either deeply worried or mourning their loss. Even if not a young person the fact she lost her life is quite tragic. Poor thing.
