Backpack Found, But San Bruno Marine Still Missing

A backpack believed to have been Joseph McHenry's was located on the beach near Mori Point, but no other signs of him have been found so far.

Authorities continue to search for a San Bruno man who was  after he failed to return from a camping trip in Pacifica, a spokesman said today.

On March 2, Joseph McHenry, 27, said he was going rock climbing and camping overnight at a secluded beach near Pacifica, San Bruno police Lt. Tim Mahon said.

He never returned, and his car was found parked in a residential area near Sharp Park Golf Course on Wednesday, Mahon said.

A two-day search of the cliffs, coast and near-shore waters was launched by San Bruno police, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, the National Park Service and the U.S. Coast Guard.

A backpack believed to have been McHenry's was located on the beach near Mori Point, but no other signs of the missing man were found, Mahon said.

Foul play is not suspected at this time, and officers continue to investigate his disappearance.

McHenry is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall with brown eyes and black hair, weighing around 170 pounds. He is a former Marine and has a USMC tattoo on his chest.
