20-Year-Old San Jose Woman Killed in Weekend Crash Identified

Kathryn Habenicht, 20, of San Jose, passed away after a head-on crash this weekend.

A woman who was killed in a in Half Moon Bay late Saturday night has been identified by the San Mateo County coroner's office as Kathryn Habenicht, 20, of San Jose.

Habenicht was heading south on state Highway 1 near Miramontes Point Road when a northbound Dodge Caravan veered into the southbound lane just before midnight, California Highway Patrol Officer Art Montiel said.

The Dodge, driven by a 44-year-old woman from San Gregorio, struck Habenicht's Honda Civic head on, Montiel said.

Habenicht died at the scene.

The driver of the Dodge and was taken to Stanford Hospital, according to the CHP.

The crash remains under investigation, and it has not been determined whether drugs or alcohol played a role, CHP officials said.
