Swim For the Sharks

Next Friday, October 25th, I will be swimming for sharks.  I will join a select few other members of the Dolphin Club here in San Francisco and swim from the City Front to Alcatraz, around the island, and back to San Francisco.  3.5 miles open water.  In 55 degree water.  No wet suit.  Oh yeah, since we start at 6 am, the first leg across the bay will be in the dark.
Some may say it's crazy.  These are shark infested waters right?  Not really, these are shark inhabited waters.
We just kicked off the fundraising campaign for our non profit on IndieGogo.  While the goal of the swim is to raise $2,750 for the funding of a research intern, my personal goal is to raise $1,000 towards the overall cause.

Many people think of sharks as man eaters. Few people realize the importance of sharks to marine ecosystems. They hear all about shark attacks but not Man Bites Shark.  We are literally eating them out of the ocean- as many as 100, Million a year for their fins alone, to make shark fin soup.
How long can this go on?  At the rate of overfishing, only a few decades are left for these perfect predators.

We are trying to raise money to support shark research and, hopefully, create a shark sanctuary in the San Francisco Bay protecting critical habitat and nurseries for local sharks.
Saving sharks can save the oceans. Sharks are in deep trouble and that is why Shark Stewards Fights for Sharks.

Please, support a swimmer, adopt a shark, attend a Sharktober event like our film and talk with a surfer/shark attack survivor at the Pacifica- Sharp Park Library.
We are striving hard for the health of our ocean- please help us reach our goal. The link to donate, along with more info on the event/charity, is here.

Thanks in advance for your support.  Please feel free to share with others.
Lets swim for sharks so that sharks can keep swimming!
