Former Pacifica Resident Out of Work Due to Chemotherapy Treatments

Veronica Martinez is asking friends from Pacifica to help her sister fighting stage 4 cancer make ends meet through Go Fund Me. Here's how you can help her (scroll to the bottom for her story) and others.

Here in Pacifica, Veronica Martinez started a Go Fund Me site just two days ago for her sister Paulette, 41, who has been fighting Stage 4 Cancer for the past 4 years.

"It was after seeing how she was during Thanksgiving that I decided to take some action and start a fundraiser on Go Fund Me," said Martinez. "This past week was her week off from chemotherapy and she slept right through Thanksgiving.

"Two years ago our wonderful childhood friends from Pacifica held a fundraiser at the Moose Lodge and we were able to raise a lot of money to help her out with expenses. Since creating the website on Go Fund Me two days ago, we have raised almost $4,000 and most of it has come from our friends from Pacifica.

"This time of the year is tight for everybody, but still our amazing friends have pulled together to make it possible for my sister to get the rest she needs to recover from this intense therapy."

Because the cancer is now in her lungs, Paulette will have to undergo a very aggressive chemotherapy treatment for the next six months making it virtually impossible for her to go to work, said her sister. Any little bit of money to help her make ends meet would help.

Unlike other crowdfunding websites like Kickstarter, GoFundMe focuses more on helping people fund very personal goals. So in addition to traditional charitable causes, you may find someone who is asking for help financing a car payment or paying for a honeymoon.
