A Charlie Brown Christmas on Pedro Point

Who knew that cutting down your own Christmas Tree in Pacifica could be so wonderful? And that it helped the Pedro Point Headlands environment only made it that much better!

Almost 200 volunteers cut down their own holiday tree, got boughs for garlands and wreaths and did it all for a special event at the Pedro Point Headlands in Pacifica on Sunday.

Participants assisted the Pacifica Land Trust's Pedro Point Headlands habitat restoration team with native plant restoration and hiked in one of the most beautiful areas on the Coastside. Most also contributed generously to the Pacifica Land Trust.

Sunday, Nov. 27 was a beautiful day on the headlands and everyone was in a very festive holiday mood. The Pacifica Land Trust and Pedro Point Community Association hosted the "Get Your Charlie Brown Christmas Tree" stewardship event for the second year in a row and through the event removed the spreading Monterey pines from the shrub lands on the Pedro Point Headlands. By removing these trees, we strengthened the overall health of this wonderful ecosystem. All Monterey pine groves were left intact for wildlife and bird habitat.

"Our annual Charlie Brown Christmas Tree holiday event gives us a venue to remove invasive Monterey pines from the headlands while educating citizens on the environment and adding the fun of hiking in the headlands and cutting down your very own environmentally friendly holiday tree with friends and family. In my eyes it was a huge success on so many levels," Sam Casillas, president of the Pacifica Land Trust, said.

The trees everyone found of varying shapes and sizes, some of the large variety natural and free range turned out to be the best trees ever! Just like Charlie Brown's tree because it was the adventure that made it so wonderful! And with the spectacular views and the community spirit, it couldn't have been better!

Thank you, Pacifica Land Trust and Pedro Point Community Association. Please do continue to preserve, protect and enhance the natural, scenic, recreational, cultural, historic and open space environment of Pacifica and the
surrounding community for present and future generations.

Happy Holidays.
