New Library Program Offers Free Passes For Area Attractions

Discovery Museum? Asian Art Museum? Exploratorium? You can get passes if you're a library cardholder in Pacifica or San Mateo County.

How was your weekend? Were you looking for something to do, but plum out of ideas, leaving you to another set of days sitting in front of the tube, or your computer, waiting for work to resume on Monday?

Would a weekend trip to the Exploratorium have been nice? How about a trip to the Oakland Zoo?

Guests coming to town? Looking to show them some of this area's great cultural places to go. Discover & Go may be a big help.

In essence, the first of its kind Discover & Go provides access to passes that can be printed online rather than traditional physical passes that must be picked up and returned to the Library.

Each Discover & Go pass expires immediately after the reservation date – there are no returns required and no possibility of overdue fines.

As a library cardholder in Pacifica or San Mateo County, you can make reservations online at http://discover.smcl.org by date or by venue and print out a museum pass.

If you don't have Internet access, you can reserve a pass by telephone or in person.

You can reserve up to two passes at a time from a healthy list of destinations including:

  • Aquarium of the Bay
  • Asian Art Museum
  • Bay Area Discovery Museum
  • Cartoon Museum
  • Exploratorium
  • Lawrence Hall of Science
  • Marine Mammal Center
  • Museum of Craft and Folk Art
  • Oakland Museum of California
  • Oakland Zoo
  • San Jose Art Museum
  • Yerba Buena Center for the Arts

For further information and a complete list of venues offered through the new program, you can go to www.discover.smcl.org, or visit the library system at www.smcl.org.
