Deer Captured and Tagged for Crash Study

Some trapping will be visible to drivers.

Biologists from the Department of Fish and Game and University of California at Davis will be using dart guns to capture deer and put radio collars on them as part of a study to help reduce deer and motorist collisions, according to Caltrans, the funder of the study.

On Saturday and Sunday, July 21-22 and 28-29, biologists will tag the deer for the six-month study in parts of San Mateo County near Highway 280.

It is the second such phase of the study, with the first taking place in December 2011. Results from the first phase are not yet available.
