Kaiser Permanente Volunteers Honor MLK Day of Service in South San Francisco
Twenty-two volunteers from Kaiser Permanente, South San Francisco spent the day Monday, clearing and preparing the garden at Westborough Park day care center. A new plan for the garden was implemented to remedy the current gopher problem.
Volunteers cleared out old planter beds, weeds and debris, and replaced with large galvanized tubs to be used for spring planting. Working together, they carried hundreds of wheelbarrows of new dirt and ground cover to complete the task. The new garden will allow the children to watch their planting efforts be successful.
“Kaiser Permanente is not only about taking care of our health in the medical center," said John Skerry, MD, Physician-in-Chief. KP South San Francisco. "We are proud to be involved and care for the overall health of our community in these type of projects.”
Joining in the efforts were Mayor Karyl Matsumoto and Vice Mayor Rich Garbarino. California State Senator Leland Yee stopped by to view the project and thank everyone for their efforts to support making the community a better place.
